Title: London Has Fallen
MPAA Rating: R
Director: Babak Najafi
Starring: Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Angela Bassett
Runtime: 1 hr 39 mins

What It Is: After the death of the British Prime Minister all of the world’s allies have ascended upon London in order to pay their respects. This, however, leads to a trap that’s been set by a terrorist organization in redemption for a previous drone strike on his family that caused him great despair. As these leaders arrive things begin to get put into motion that may cause Mike Banning (Butler) to have to protect President Asher (Eckhart) as these terrorist run wild in London.

What We Think: This movie is by no means good. Having said that it is at times ridiculous to the point where you cannot help but enjoy yourself throughout. This is the kind of action movie that would have had a place in the 1990’s. It is over the top, brash and does not care about telling a coherent story. It knows this and plays on that very belief quite easily. Gerard Butler and Aaron Eckhart look like they’re having a really fun time. That’s all you want out of something like this.

Our Grade: D+It is passable only insofar that it knows what it is, doesn’t care that it isn’t good and move through its runtime briskly. Olympus Has Fallen was similar, but still a better film. It’s not a failure, nothing this purposely dumb could be. I recommend this if you really just want to turn your brain off and enjoy a action-packed good time. I like seeing Butler do things like this. For a long time all he did was make these terrible Romantic Comedies. He was not good in any of them besides perhaps P.S. I Love You which is a film I really enjoy. Just let the guy go nuts on whatever he wants, he’s good at that!
