Title: Lazer Team
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Matt Hullum
Starring: Burnie Burns, Gavin Free, Michael Jones
Runtime: 1 hr 42 mins

What It Is: Over twenty years ago an alien came to earth to warn of an impending invasion by a nefarious race. He provided them with a suit that contained four key pieces. These four parts combine to form a suit that will be worn by the champion of Earth when the battle begins. This man named Adam (Alan Ritchson) has been bred from birth for this exact task. When the armor for battle arrives four Texas idiots start putting it on, without realizing that doing so is permanent. This throws a kink in the plan and the alien is on its way. Time for Lazer Team to shine.

What We Think: There are certainly some funny here but they are few and far between. I can appreciate what Rooster Teeth and YouTube were trying to do. They were trying to take what would’ve worked in short spurts and expand on their proven formula for YouTube success. Sadly this does not lend itself well to feature length. There’re far too many nut shots and flat jokes for my liking. If this is the killer app for YouTube Red than it is a good reason I didn’t renew when my free trial was over.

Our Grade: C-, Blase in every sense of the word. There isn’t anything inherently wrong with this film but it is not memorable at  all. There’s nothing original either. This is not to say it is bad because it isn’t but there’s just nothing of note or memory. Colton Dunn for the record is a very funny man. He is the best part of Superstore on TV. Here he provides a few laughs but definitely could have used a bit of help to prop him up. Overall I can’t quite recommend this despite the fact that I’d like too.
