Title: Batman: Bad Blood
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Jay Oliva
Starring: Jason O’Mara, Yvonne Strahovski, Stuart Allan
Runtime: 1 hr 12 mins

What It Is: When an intriguing new threat hits Gotham. One that’s caused Batman to disappear. In his absence, Alfred tries to save face and Dick Grayson (aka Nightwing) takes over the cowl. Likewise, Damian Wayne comes back to try and find his father. All the while a strange gun-wielding vigilante calling herself Batwoman is running around killing bad guys. This shadow organization with a sinister intent may be more familiar to the Batcrew than they think.

What We Think: There’s are some definite problems with this. Most of them start with the messy script. The characters motivations are never explained. What we are given does not make a whole lot of sense. I loved the animation style DC has been using with these Batman films, and likewise, these characters were well voiced. It has a terrific cast including Yvonne Strahovski, Ernie Hudson, and Morena Baccarin. I also really appreciated the journey even if I didn’t really like the story it told getting there. DC is still far ahead of the game in the animated features department.

Our Grade: C, It struggles to get the words out and even when it does, what it has to say isn’t even all that interesting. There’s a lot more that could have been done with this and we’ve seen what can be done by DC animated. When it comes to that I’d like a higher focus on making sure that the villains just make sense, in both motivation and story. I’m going to recommend this to all the Batman fanboys out there you’ll enjoy this. As for most other, this is certainly a skip unless the premise intrigues you, which if you’re a sane movie fan this won’t.
