Title: The Death of “Superman Lives”: What Happened?
MPAA Rating: Unrated
Director: Jon Schnepp
Starring: Kevin Smith, Tim Burton, John Peters
Runtime: 1 hr 44 mins

What It Is: A comprehensive documentary on the Tim Burton/ Nicholas Cage Superman movie that never was. This really breaks down the development hell this film went through, and touches on why it in fact never did get made. Featuring interviews with Burton as well as producer John Peters as well as a slew of other involved in the films development. In addition to all that we get to see concept art, as well as recreating some of the events surrounding this films creation (or lack thereof).

What We Think: This is a great documentary. Director Jon Schnepp really does a great job of painting the picture of what happened. Not only that but he never paints the very…unique (to say the least) John Peter in a negative light. Dude is weird, and that is obvious, and never did I understand how possibly contentious the relationship between Smith and Burton possibly might have been. All of the interviews are interesting whether you’re a sweaty nerd or not. The documentary simultaneously tells the story of what could have been while peeking behind the curtain on the film making process in Hollywood.

Our Grade: A-, Great job here with this film. I’m going to recommend you buy this from the official site right HERE or check it out on VOD. Whether you’re a comic book fan, a Burton fan, or just a fan of documentary this ticks each of those boxes.  Be sure to let me know what you thought of this intriguing idea, and whether or not you think it works.
