Title: To Write Love on Her Arms
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Nathan Frankowski
Starring: Kat Dennings, Chad Michael Murray, Rupert Friend
Runtime: 1 hr 58 mins

What It Is: Renee Yohe (Dennings) has always had a wondering mind. Images of dragons and monsters haunted her as a child, and now as an adult the demons are far more tangible. These are the monsters of bi-polar disorder, and drug addiction. As she falls further into the grip of these she is alas saved by the work of her friends, and ends up in rehab. While there one of her new friends a young man named Jamie Tworkowski (Michael Murray) who takes Renee’s story and turns it into a great non-profit out to prove that even if you think you’re alone, and lost there is always someone to talk to.

What We Think: There’s a great surrealism in Frankowski’s direction. Kat Dennings walks a razor’s edge with performance as she portrays the inspiration for this organization that is very close to me personally. This film takes a lot of risks both visually and narratively. It doesn’t lay out it’s plot in lucid exposition. Some of the visual decisions leave a bit to be desired, for examplethere’s a scene within the first twenty that is tonally a shift from the rest of the film. Chad Michael Murray is good enough as a flatly written Jamie, but this is Dennings film and she does work here despite looking nothing like Zohe herself.

Our Grade:B+, This is a fantastic little film. What they made on a 9 million dollar budget makes me truly happy about the future of what a film like this could do. It tells an interesting story, with fairly big names, and good enough effects on only 9 million. Check this one out on VOD, or in an arthouse near you. It’s also available on DVD and Blu-Ray right now and you can purchase it from anywhere you buy you media as well as the organiztions official shop which is: http://store.twloha.com/ while you’re there pick us up an awesome shirt or something eh. Love is the movement, and love this film I did.
