Title: Big Hero 6
MPAA Rating: PG
Director: Don Hall, Chris Williams
Starring: Ryan Potter, T.J. Miller, Damon Wayans Jr.
Runtime: 1 hr 33 mins

What It Is: In the distant future in a place called San Fransokyo a genius 13 year old named Hiro Hamada and his equally gifted older brother Tadashi live there life day-to-day. One day Hiro is introduced to Tadashi’s newest invention Baymax, a personal medical assistant. Baymax is an invention that Tadashi believes could help the world for the better. Tadashi then drags Hiro to his tech college a move the inspires him to attend the school. During the tech show that’ll help Hiro get in something happens and that sets off Hiro to become something more then he was before. It leads him to create the Big Hero 6 which is Hiro, Baymax and Tadashi’s friends Go Go, Honey Lemon, Wasabi, and Fred. And is this group that we will be going on an adventure with.

What We Think: It’s Marvel’s first venture into animation on the big screen thanks to there relationship with Disney. And it’s this relationship that probably helped it become a success at the box-office. The film however seems to lack any real villainous threat though the characters are interesting and a ton of fun to boot. It’s the lack of a villain that hurts the film. You never really feel as though the group is in trouble. It’s far too saccharin, it doesn’t take chances and doesn’t seem to care about not doing any of that. It does have a helluva time with the concept and it’s a great time in the theater. I had a fun time, and tried to get lost in this rather impressive looking world that is San Fransokyo.

Our Grade: B-, It’s a decent film with good voice acting particularly T.J. Miller makes Fred very very funny. It’s an interesting property out of Disney and they took the source material in a different direction. Really good animated film, it was also nominated for Best Animated feature just today at this years Oscars. Congrats to it for that and I look forward to where they’ll take this concept next.
