Title: Horrible Bosses 2
MPAA Rating: R
Director: Sean Anders
Starring: Jason Batman, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis
Runtime: 1 hr 48 mins
What It Is: We revisit our three friends from the previous installment Nick, Kurt, Dale (Bateman, Sudeikis, and Day) and on this adventure the boys are now the inventors of an interesting new product called The Shower Buddy..or Daddy (if you ask Dale). Their invention is desired by Bert Hanson (Christoph Waltz) and his idiot son Rex (Chris Pine) for their mail order catalog business, apperantly the largest in their alternate version on Los Angeles. Seeking to make their mark the boys strike a deal with the elder Hanson, which of course he screw them on. After doing so the boys devise a plan to cut the losses, and with that springs a kidnaping (sic) scenario involving the abduction of Rex Hanson.
What We Think?: We actually reviewed the orginal way back in our Facebook only days in 2011 If you’d like you can read that review here . Where that film featured a great cast of bosses including lead baddie Dave Harken (played here again by the brilliant Kevin Spacey) this one instead gets the Hanson family which don’t have near the brilliance, or pure evil of Harken which is sad because normally Waltz is a fantastic villian. Jennifer Aniston’s nymphomaniacal D.D.S Dr. Julia Harris returns, as does Jamie Foxx as the shady Mothaeffa Jones. In the end all of this adds up to nothing as the film really just felt like a sequel made for no reason.
Our Grade: C-, Though Anders’ direction is sloppy and the script dead on arrival the play between the three leads is as likeable as it’s previous incarnation. It’s that chemistry which keeps the film from totally falling apart despite a ridiculously stupid third act, and a loathesome conclusion. Thank god for Kevin Spacey giving us some great moments as a jailed, and jaded David Harken otherwise this is one you don’t really need to see, despite having a few good laughs in it.
