Title: Fury
MPAA Rating: R
Director: David Ayers
Starring: Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman
Runtime: 2 hr 15 mins

What It Is: Don “Wardaddy” Collier (Pitt) has seen the horrors of World War II. He and his crew or the U.S. tank “Fury” have been fighting Nazi’s from Africa to where they currently are in Germany. The lot of them which includes Boyd “Bible” Swan (LeBeouf), Trini “Gordo” Garcia (Michael Pena), Grady “Coon-Ass” Travis (Jon Bernthal) a motley crew who would do anything for Collier. When their assitant driver is killed in action they are given a brand new one. New recruit Norman (Lerman) has arrived to take his place. but these guys have been through thick and thin and they’ve just buried one of their own. I’m not inclined to think they’re in the mood to deal with a newbie in the ranks. Will they allow Norman in or will these battle-hardened gentleman isolate their newest recruit.

What We Think: David Ayers visceral, realistic style suits this sort of subject matter. The dirty gritty tank battles, and unwashed wartime fatigue are all captured through Ayers lens. Pitt and his crew are great in this, and their acting is well constructed and believable. Shia Labeouf is the best part of this film bringing in some great elements to his bible belt Christian persona. It’ll be a divisive film in a married household as it really sides itself with the male audience especially with it’s themes of brotherhood and war.

Our Grade: A-,It’s an enjoyable thrill ride that’ll have you gripped and won’t let go. I really think Ayers is on a hot streak with both this and End of Watch. This sort of seedy underbellish type filming will fit perfectly with Ayers’ next big project Warner Bros./DC adaptation Suicide Squad which I think will take that sort of touch. Unfortunately for this film it was leaked this weekend by a hacker, however go see it in a theatre, it’s the type of film that’s best served that way.
