Title: Horns
MPAA Rating: R
Director: Alexandre Aja
Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Juno Temple, Joe Anderson
Runtime: 2 hrs 3 mins

What It Is: Ig Parrish (Radcliffe) is being accused of murdering the love of his life Merrin (Temple) and everyone in his small Northwest town believes he’s guilty despite the fact that the evidence against him is next to none thus far. Only his family and lawyer friend Lee believe he may be innocent. However following a drunken hook up Ig wakes up with horn protruding from his head, and that’s not all now people are spilling their deepest darkest secrets to him. He doesn’t get why, what he does knowis that with his new found power perhaps he cn get to the bottom of  this whodunit.

What We Think: I really enjoyed the originality of this film, but it’s inconsistent pacing hurts it somewhat. Daniel Radcliffe isn’t Harry Potter anymore and if you didn’t buy into him from his indie turn in the awesome RomCom What If (which if you have not seen that you should) then his turn here as Ig will totally enrapture you in THIS character and forget that he ever was the wizard from Hogwarts at least to those of us who aren’t Muggles. Aja isn’t known for his great selection of projects what with The Hills Have Eyes,  and Mirrors. However this is nothing like either of those films, and nothing like Aja’s claim to fame High Tension what it is is a really interesting fillm with some great stuff in it. It’s comedy is often ill-timed but turns a cute nose with that humor. It’s scary moments are okay but they dont hit that well. Overall it’s a good movie, that is too ambitious for it’s own good, and has the wrong director in the chair to get there.

Our Grade: C+, Radcliffe is great, Temple is interesting but only Joe Anderon as Ig’s musician brother Terry and James Remar as Ig’s dad are interesting in the ancillary characters. Some of the dialogue is iffy and the ending leaves a lot to be desired. In fact while were on the ending it feels like a really odd way to go with it. Nonetheless go see for yourself it opens on Halloween and it’s kind of a slow week for openings.
