Title: Chef
MPAA Rating: R
Director: Jon Favreau
Starring: Jon Favreau, John Leguizamo, Sofia Vergara
Runtime: 1 hr 54 mins

What It Is: Chef Carl Casper works at a pretty nice restaurant cooking pretty good food, and everything seems to be going well…pretty good! The bad part is that doesn’t seem to be enough for Carl. He seems complacent…dangerously so. When the top food critic in Los Angeles (Oliver Platt) has a harsh criticism for Carl he starts an all out Twitter war, this has some interesting consequences for Carl ones that’ll change his life completely. How will Carl react once the flame war starts?

What We Think: Holy crap that’s a great movie! Not only does Favreau turn this pseudo jerk of a guy into a lovable type fella. This group of characters is excellent especially Leguizamo who was the absolute best as Carl’s right hand Martin. Sofia Vergara was really charming and sweet in a way I’ve never seen her, and the very young Emjay Anthony was awesome as Carl’s son Casper. Favreau’s direction isn’t the only thing he’s doing well his turn as Carl Casper was the heart and soul of the film. It made me laugh, almost cry, and just get a sense of general good feelings. It’s not an experience I can remember having with any other film thus far. I only wish I’d seen this on the big screen and not on my television.

Our Grade: A, Never have I been more hungry when I was done with a film than I was when I was done here. I’ve never had a Cubano but dammit I want one now! Quiero comer eso, y tiene que suceder ahora! For those of you who don’t speak Espanol…oh well! I’m hispanic, I do, and I finally have a place to put it. Regardless, go see the damn movie it’s incredible! It had a smaller release schedule and it played out here it was just a case of too many films and not enough time. Luckily, Blu-Ray was there to save my life, and introduce this great film in to it.
