Title: Sabotage
MPAA Rating: R
Director: David Ayers
Starring: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sam Worthington, Olivia Williams
Runtime: 1 hr 49 mins
What It Is?: A DEA special operations team led by John “Breacher” Wharton (Schwarzenegger) and his team of highly trained people are on suspension when they are suspected of stealing 10 million dollars from a powerful Mexican drug organization. When a few of Breachers men turn up dead a local police officer (Williams) is determined to find out both the suspect and the motive. Did they take the money? If they didn’t who did? Whose taking out Breachers team? Is it the cartel?
What We Think: Arnold is here doing what he’s always done. Taking charge, kicking ass and occasionally stopping to partake in a nice stogie. The dynamic between Breacher and his team, coupled with the eclectic mix that comprises the team makes for some of the films funnier more endearing moments. The introduction of Williams’ Caroline character adds a new element as does her relationship with her partner Jackson played by the always wonderful Harold Perrineau.
Our Grade: A-, Ayers does it for me again. After the fantastic End Of Watch brought a grittiness, and reality to the cop movie genre Ayers against takes the kids gloves off with a grittily realistic portrait of paranoia, mistrust, and vengeance. You turn a corner in this film and you’re unsure what is around the corner. That is what makes Sabotage must-see for people who enjoyed End of Watch, and furthermore if you like not needing the backend of your theater chair well that’ll help facilitate that as well. Go see it, enjoy it, and unplug your brain for an hour and a spell. But be careful because this film will mess with your mind as it gets put together.
