Title: That Awkward Moment
MPAA Rating: R
Director: Tom Gorimican
Starring: Zac Efron, Michael B. Jordan, Miles Teller
Runtime: 1hr 34 mins

What It Is: Three friends all in different places in life are having to deal. We have Mikey (Jordan) who is recently separated from his cheating wife, Daniel who may or may not be falling for a girl, and Jason their fearless leader who never met a girl he didn’t like (but not enough to girlfriend). That changes for Jason when he meets Ellie that is. As Jason and Daniel try to help Mikey start up a “roster” (don’t think that needs explain that) and forget about his cheating wife. Mikey of course doesn’t listen and tries to work it out.
What We Think: Lot’s of toilet humor (literally and figuratively) there’s also some genuinely funny moments here that in our pre-screening had the audience laughing out loud. And here’s the so moment (that one will be explained if you watch this). The so moment occurs at the end which can be described as formulaic at best. It was almost as if Gormican who wrote the screenplay as well as directed was afraidto take a chance on the ending and that for me costs this film dearly. That coupled with a case of too much going on doesn’t help
Our Grade: C+, It’s a cluster for sure, one that doesn’t quite know where to go, and while it was an interesting spin on the RomCom formula it failed to innovate with it’s story. And likewise got murdered thanks to its ending. These three guys (Efron, Jordan, and Teller) are going to be huge in the near future. Perhaps this is the film we look at and say…yeah that was the bump in the road needed to really jet set their careers. Tis the season for RomCom’s and while this isn’t a bad start it isn’t a good one either.
