The year was 2009, and I sat in a movie theatre with my girlfriend of about 4 years.
The lights dimmed, and the movie began.
Little did I know, the next 95 minutes, I would partake on a cinematic adventure that would define my early to mid-20s, to a tee.
If you haven’t seen the film, (500 Days of Summer takes us through the relationship of Tom Hansen (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and Summer Finn (Zooey Deschanel), as Tom recounts the 500 days (in random order) Summer has been a part of his life.
The film has become a favorite of mine to watch, when sad about a girl, because I relate to it perfectly. And when you’re sad, all you want is to know you aren’t alone.
I’ve learned many life/relationship lessons from this film. I’m going to give you 5 of them…

We all have to start somewhere. The same goes for actors. Not all of them were just given superstar status. Almost all of them had to pay their dues. And paying your dues, in the film industry, meant cameos and background roles, with no speaking parts, while more successful actors took the screen time. You may have seen these movies and, as time passed, have forgotten that they had even inhabited a role in it.

In this here, picture, you have the stunning, Halle Berry. A gorgeous woman turned ugly, thanks to the film, Catwoman. Directed by Pitof, it was his first “major motion picture”…as you can see, he fucked that up majorly. If you didn’t see Catwoman, then congratulations….you just kept 5 years of your life. Smoke a pack of celebratory cigarettes, and you will still live longer than if you had watched Catwoman.
