Title: The Other Me

What It Is: Irakli (Sturgess) is a bartender who WANTS to be an architect. Then disaster strikes. He is diagnosed with a degenerative eye disease that will eventually lead to him becoming blind. He’s struggling in his marriage and when he meets the beautiful nameless woman in the forest (played by Pejic) his whole life will change. And as the darkness of a lack of sight looms he’ll instead start to see the world and it’s people more for their intention rather the the facades they choose to show him.

What We Think: Executive Producer David Lynch has some connotations to it. Most of those surround the fact that he and his films are weird. That he attached himself to this one really hammers home the weirdness of Irakli’s blindness. The how of how this character sees the world after losing his sight. It’s a…strange film not really in a good way sadly. Sturgess always comes off as aloof in a lot of his work. Pejic’s performance is charismatic and a highlight. Visually there’s some truly stunning stuff but it’s all cotton candy for the script which could’ve used some polish. It’s first two acts sag to an extreme extent. Hurting the overall experience. Once the film finally gets going its over.

Our Grade: D+, This film is a car that never gets into it’s second gear. Not because it couldn’t but because the director never shifts the car into 2nd. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays to a wider audience because it definitely is going to be a niche film. I wouldn’t expect anything less from something with David Lynch’s name on it. I don’t really recommend this one. I can’t.
