Title: I’ll Show You Mine
MPAA Rating: Not Rated
Director: Megan Griffiths
Starring: Poorna Jagannathan, Casey Thomas Brown
Runtime: 1 hr 42 mins

What It Is: Author Priya (Jagannathan) is writing a book about her nephew Nic (Thomas Brown) and his history as a model. For this, she is interviewing him. As the interview begins it’s clear that the traumas of Priya’s life have and probably always will manifest themselves within her work. Now as the questions are being asked even more concerning issues present themselves. Issues surrounding Nic’s own potential parental issues centered on his controlling father, a man who is also his manager.

What We Think: Megan as a filmmaker is so good at shining lights on her characters. Whatever those lights show is up completely to the actors and the script. What we get here is two flawed humans absolutely hashing it out for each other’s betterment. At once it seems Priya’s playing down to Nic and by the end, they sit as equals in their pain. Great performance married with concise and precise direction from Griffiths makes this at times really hard to watch but incredibly rewarding some of the time. Nothing fancy from a cinematography standpoint. A point-and-shoot adventure of two people. This is character-driven and it’s absolutely wonderful in that regard.

Our Grade: C+, A really good film this is a slow burn that won’t be for all audiences. I can say that is more a matter of preference then it is skill on the part of Megan Griffiths who is extremely talented yet again! General audiences aren’t going to appreciate the storytelling happening here. But I did. If you want something that explores it’s characters in such a genuine way check this one out because it’s a very rewarding experience for those of us lucky enough to check it out!
