MPAA Rating: R
Director: Mimi Cave
Starring: Sebastian Stan, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Jojo T. Gibbs
Runtime: 1 hr 54 mins

What It Is: Noa (Edgar-Jones) has had some terrible luck with dating. In fact, her last date was an utter disaster. She’s all but given up on trying to find love. That is until she meets a charming and handsome doctor named Steve (Stan). The two hit it off and Noa can’t believe her luck. When the two go away for a weekend away Noa will discover that perhaps it all is a bit too good to be true.

What We Think: What an intelligently written piece of horror cinema. Well-acted and sharply directed. Sebastian Stan looks like he’s having a helluva time playing Steve. Daisy Edgar-Jones works so well as the heart and soul of this film. As we move through the film and the revelations begin to uncover, you start to understand the depth with which Lauryn Kahn put this script together. With each new twist, the new discovery feels earned. Having such a brilliant and intimate cast dispelling this dialogue makes matters even better. Solidly one of 2022’s best entries into the horror genre. I loved how smart everything was. Not something we get too often out of the horror genre.

Our Grade: A-, If you’re a fan of the horror genre oh boy are you in for a treat with this one! If you’re generally not, and I frankly am not, there’s still plenty here. Most of that stems from this being a genuinely great film. One with a totally committed cast and a sharp (and for lack of a better term) fresh eye behind the lens. I can’t wait for Mimi Cave’s next project. I can’t wait to see Lauryn Kahn’s next script. I loved her previous one too (Ibiza).
