Title: Bullied
MPAA Rating: NR
Director: Thomas Keith
Starring: Ron Avi Astor, Jennifer Davis, Kimya Dennis
Runtime: 1 hr 18 mins

What It Is: A documentary that takes a close look at the lives and families of those affected by bullying and the multitude of mental health issues that can arise because of it.

What We Think: Such a sensitive subject as bullying and its repercussions deserves great care and thoroughness when being addressed. Thomas Keith provides these along with a critical perspective of the culture surrounding bullying, and the society that perpetuates it. Bullied helps everyone to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes, and this shows that change is necessary. It is clear from the start that this film was made for a specific reason, that it has a mission. Keith has set out to raise awareness for a serious issue in America, and along the way, he also addresses the cause of the problem, aggressive and belittling behavior in media and politics mirrored by everyday people and children.

Our Grade: B, It is clear that Keith is an activist before a filmmaker, but even if there may be a bit of artistry lost in Bullied, there is always enough urgency in the message to fill the gaps. The film is much more informative than it is entertaining, but that does not keep it from being moving. Bullied can at times be disturbing, but at other times it can uplifting, leaving the audience with hopes for a brighter future.
