Title: Dolittle
Rating: PG
Director: Stephen Gaghan
Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Tom Holland, Emma Thompson
Runtime: 1 hr 41 mins

What It Is: Dr. John Dolittle lives in solitude behind the high walls of his lush manor in 19th-century England. His only companionship comes from an array of exotic animals that he speaks to on a daily basis. But when young Queen Victoria becomes gravely ill, the eccentric doctor and his furry friends embark on an epic adventure to a mythical island to find the cure.

What We Think: Honestly, I am not entirely sure how I feel about this film. Even though I had already seen the first and second Dr. Dolittle, admittedly I never saw the third one, I went into this movie knowing the basic concept of what this movie is going to be about but I did not go into the theatre with any expectations. So, what is the final conclusion? Was this a bad movie? No, absolutely not. Would I call this a great movie? That is questionable. I would call this a rather decent film to take your kids to go see, despite a certain piece of dialogue which was intended as a joke possibly being a tad bit inappropriate for young kids. However, definitely a decent family film none the less. My biggest issue with this film is that it seems to have taken the original concept of Dr. Dolittle and incorporated elements from Back to the Future, The Animal, and Bedtime Stories with the American Television series House and called it a day. I know some may argue that everything is borrowed and that nothing is original anymore. However, it felt that this film cheated in certain ways because of laziness or possibly even lack of imagination. Which is a tad bit disappointing. Over, would I watch this film again? Yes, I would. What I wouldn’t do is go in with high expectations.

Our Grade: C+, This film was a fun family film with decent acting however as mentioned previously a tad bit disappointing in certain ways. I only wish there had been more originality in it than there was.
