Title: Color Out of Space

What It Is: A town is struck by a meteorite. It lands in a farm that is owned by farmer Nathan Gardner (Cage). When this strange purple glowing rock begins to change the flora and the fauna around the farm there’s a concern. Things are mutating and changing and it seems that the farms only water source, a well, has been infected by some alien force. Now some hellscape creatures have made their way.

What We Think: This thing is a mess. A wild, insane mess. Nicholas Cage is at his unhinged best. This is based on an H.P. Lovecraft so when I mention a “hellscape creature” you know what you’re getting into. Madeleine Arthur is really fun here. Her performance is the glue that holds the entire thing together. Structurally this film is bad and its wild third act is just terrible. There’s something to be said about creating a spectacle. That’s what this does. I can’t say I enjoyed the film. It’s by no means…bad it is just trying way too hard. I really thought the colors, particularly purple were well used and gave an interesting look to the whole thing.

Our Grade: D+, This film opens in the last week of January…when you see it you’ll know why. Its US premiere was actually at Fantastic Fest and I believe this is coming to Netflix. Don’t quote me on that last bit. So I can’t in good conscience recommend this film. It’s definitely got an audience. It’s a niche audience but nonetheless. Check it out if you’re into the sort of thing for the rest of us we’ll skip this. Honestly though…who doesn’t love a little crazy Nic Cage?
