What It Is: As Swedish director, Mads Brügger looks to document the death and subsequent investigation of slain United Nations Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld. As he crafts the narrative of precisely what happened on that doomed flight way back in September of 1961 he uncovers that not only was this perhaps not an accident. As the investigation closes in they also find that something far more sinister may be afoot. Something straight out of a horror film itself.

What We Think: This is an insightful and edge of your seat documentary. As the veil of conspiracy raises and the true nature of what’s occurred begins to be told you’re not sure of who you can ever trust again. The depth of the cover-ups and angles taken are deeply concerning. Government and World politicians hiding what happened to Dag Hammarskjöld and the ulterior motives the people who may have done this have. Brügger blends elements from some of today’s best documentarians. Borrowing some from the likes of Werner Herzög to craft a documentary that is among the best this year has to offer.

Our Grade: B+, An exceptional piece of filmmaking. So meticulous in its execution. You can see the wheels turning as the film rolls along. Brügger takes his time and I really enjoyed this. It is a tad too long but if any story contained the number of twists and turns this one did it’d be understandably long. I certainly recommend this one and will tell you to find it on VOD ASAP. Documentaries have a way of hooking the audience crime doc even more so. This mixes those elements with a truth stranger than fiction to craft something that’ll have you skeptical about every shadowy government organization. If you weren’t already.
