Title: Batman: Hush
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Justin Copeland
Starring: Jason O’Mara, Jennifer Morrison, Geoffrey Arend
Runtime: 1 hr 21 mins

What It Is: Bruce Wayne (O’Mara) has seen the return of his friend Dr. Thomas Elliot (Maury Sterling) but also the appearance of a new threat by the name of Hush (Arend). This new threat has enlisted the help of all of the Caped Crusader’s most nefarious villains to assist. At the same time, a new and unexpected ally will emerge…from the strangest of places. Now Gotham is under siege and it’ll take two to complete this tango.

What We Think: DC has a history of making really good animated films. This is in that spirit. Hush is a good villain even if his strand falls to bits in the third act. Geoffrey Arend supplies the villain’s voice and he does it with a bit of devilish aplomb. Jason O’Mara continues to provide the voice of Batman and he continues to do a great job. From the storyline perspective as previously mentioned the entire story sort of falls apart. Why they chose to go this way I don’t think I’ll understand. With material ranked in the top 25 graphic novels in existence, they give us this! Not up to snuff from a storytelling perspective.

Our Grade: C+, Go into this with expectations quelled. It isn’t nearly as good as other recent animated ventures from the Brothers Warner. Stick to something like Justice League: Dark which is far more interesting. It’s not a ringing endorsement by any means. What you have here is a fun and short film that explores, no matter how flawed, a really great tale from DC’s canon. O’Mara continues his run as Batman and he’s out here doing good work. Even if the rogue gallery tends to be a little more interesting in hindsight here.
