Title: See You Yesterday
MPAA Rating: TV-MA
Director: Stefon Bristol
Starring: Eden Duncan-Smith, Dante Crichlow, Astro
Runtime: 1 hr 24 mins

What It Is: Claudette (Duncan-Smith) and Sebastian (Crichlow) are brilliant high school students determined to get their temporal displacement mechanism to work. That’s right these high school students invented a sort of time machine. When they get the thing to work the consequences for playing with time become evident and as they attempt to fix the things they fuddled that that is not so easy to do. That the slightest of changes can have unforeseen and tragic consequences.

What We Think: So let’s just go ahead and start with the elephant in the room here. The message the film wants to connect so badly that it sorta knocks you over the head with it. That being said this is a rather heavy feature and I didn’t expect that. What I thought I was getting was a light-hearted film about two friends trying to make a time machine. What I got instead was a thought-provoking piece that explores both race relations (of course it does Spike Lee is a producer) and “The Butterfly Effect”. The two main characters are played wonderfully and the acting is stellar. Bristol keeps his hand light in this, his feature debut.

Our Grade: B, A smart piece that truly understands what exactly it is doing. Smartly directed, freshly acted and really is a unique addition to the Netflix canon. Turbo deserves a little respect here for the job he does as an actor. Likewise, I loved the cameo in this I won’t say who it is or what he’s doing but the cameo…its golden. I do want to let you all know that I am giving this one a huge recommendation. It’s worth your time and a true surprise.
