Review: Justice League vs the Fatal Five

Title: Justice League vs the Fatal Five
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Sam Liu
Starring: Elyes Gabel, Diane Guerrero, Kevin Conroy
Runtime: 1 hr 17 mins

What It Is: An alien from the future by the name of Thomas Kallor aka Starboy has appeared in our present day. He’s here to save an unknown hero from the future from their own destruction at the hands of a devious group known simply as the “Fatal Five”. Now Starboy’s only hope is to get help from some heroes who, in his time, are legends…The Justice League. This incarnation at least.

What We Think: This is just a simply okay film. There isn’t anything to write home about. It is ALWAYS a pleasure to hear Kevin Conroy’s voice coming out of the Caped Crusader. Brings me back the Batman: TAS and that’s a great memory to have. Outside of that, however, this film is not memorable in the least bit. Narratively it’s a bit messy and never hits any highs. That’s kind of how it goes with these DC animated films. They’re either good or completely dull. This one is the latter, unfortunately. Even the animation doesn’t look all that great and that’s a consistent hallmark of anything from director Sam Liu within the Bruce Timmivere.

Our Grade: C, Maybe go ahead and skip this one. You’re honestly not missing anything in the story besides a different Green Lantern. This one is currently available on DVD/Blu-Ray or streaming and if you’re a DC completionist this will intrigue you. Outside of that, there’s really no reason to go out of your way to seek this one out. It’s only 77 mins but even that doesn’t seem worth the time. Mediocre at best. A rather unfortunate situation indeed. Sure it isn’t the worse film of the year…far from it. What it is is below the Mendoza Line for these DC/Warner Bros. adventures.
