Title: Avengers: Endgame

What It Is: Following the events of Avengers: Infinity War and the snap felt around the world; half the living beings in the planet have been turned to dust…literally. As the world deals with the consequences of this that’ll prove difficult. Moving on, mourning, and overall the darkness following the world. When a similar energy signature strikes from an isolated planet hope springs eternal, and maybe JUST MAYBE they have a shot at getting the infinity stones back and bringing back those lost in one easy and a simple trip to this off-planet.

What We Think: Unlike last years film, this one holds some actual emotional weight. Some actual stakes. Likewise, unlike last year the acting is actually quite good. RDJ and the often overlooked Scarlett Johansson chief among these. Now here’s the reality. Narratively the story is a damned mess. Even if you don’t look too into certain aspects of the story (elements I won’t mention because…spoilers) the entire thing falls to pieces. I will say that there are some unbelievably cathartic moments here. Ones that feel very good for the audience that has waited for this for a little over a decade.

Our Grade: B-, Yeah. So unlike its previous iteration, this one actually matters. Marvel has a formula and when something has a formula it can, and ESPECIALLY with Marvel, it does get formulaic. Instead of a doppelganger villain, we get a familiar foe. There’s a finality to some of the elements here. Marvel has set the table for something excellent to disperse into there fourth phase. I recommend this film, not that it matters. Literally, everyone in the entire planet has seen this damned movie…some more than once. With that, I’ll say this is a top five offering within the MCU.
