Title: Who Let the Dogs Out?
Rating: NR
Director: Brent Hodge
Starring: Ben Sisto
Runtime: 1hr

What It Is: Sometimes, you lose the origins of something the more you try to find them. In the case of iconic 90s pop-culture, it’s the song “Who Let the Dogs Out” that seems to jump from source to source, its history more mysterious that you would think. In this documentary, we are led by Ben Sisto in his Ted-Talk-meets-comedy-act in deconstructing the songs’ conception.

What We Think: Short, sweet, and to the point. This doc kicks right off the bat as admiringly quirky and self-aware, the pacing, composition, and editing swift, clean, and fresh. The visuals pop. It is a satisfying, surprising experience in a curious if not slightly petty delve into a laid back and enjoyable rabbit-hole. Sisto and other figureheads claiming the song as their own are all incredibly entertaining, sympathy and wisdom to be found in many. It’s a rather easygoing watch—an easy on the eyes, easy on the mind study of what feels is the most random musical pop culture landmark. You’re just along for the ride.

Our Grade: B, Can definitely recommend for many a music lover. Even if you’re not a fan of the song—the story of how it came into icondom is a long, twisty, and intriguing one. An unexpected, palatable film worth a watch, definitely worth the knowledge.
