Title: Then Came You
MPAA Rating: Not Rated
Director: Peter Hutchings
Starring: Asa Butterfield, Maisie Williams, Nina Dobrev
Runtime: 1 hr 37 mins

What It Is: Calvin (Butterfield) is a hypochondriac who thinks, and probably wishes, that he was/is dying. When he attends a cancer support group he meets the precocious Skye (Williams) whose personality seems to be that of an electric young lady that isn’t letting her diagnosis stop her. Calvin is a shy boy and one who has a crush on his airport co-worker Izzy (Dobrev). But with this charismatic new person in his life maybe, just maybe he’ll get over his fears while allowing Skye to check off items from her bucket list.

What We Think: This movie is really quite bad. Not only is the script boring and unfunny but Maisie’s character comes off as annoying rather than charming. Asa Butterfield feels like he’s on another planet let alone in a different film. Peter Hutchings direction feels directionless and it all looks…and feels cheap. Nina Dobrev continues to be rather unimpressive. This was not an enjoyable experience in the least bit. When it tries to be funny it instead presents as cringe. Instead of emotion, everything is just…sort of..flat.

Our Grade: F, Nothing of merit to speak of. This is a bad movie. Asa Butterfield’s career is one of the missed opportunities and bad films. Maisie Williams is pretty young into her non-Game of Thrones career this hurts it. I cannot recommend this one. Don’t bother renting it from VOD…even at $3.99. It’s one of the years worst films in line with Accidental Love both in terms of video quality and script effectiveness. It’s a bad film skip it…that’s really all I need to say about this one. God help you if you DO bother with it. Simply awful filmmaking.
