Title: The Kissing Booth
MPAA Rating: TV-14
Director: Vince Marcello
Starring: Joey King, Joel Courtney, Jacob Elordi
Runtime: 1 hr 45 mins
What It Is: Elle (King) has been friends with Lee (Courtney) since the two were very young. For years Lee’s older brother Noah (Elordi) was a typical older brother to Lee and that transcripted itself into how he typically treated Elle. As they grew Lee became more of a dork, Noah was the star football player, the big man on campus. Elle? Well, Elle was kind of a loner and late bloomer. Everything sort of stayed that way until Elle, who’s a late bloomer, begins to…change. Now everything is slightly different then it was before.
What We Think: Good lord this is a bad movie! Joey King is in ANOTHER of 2018’s absolute worst films, along with Slender Man. Her acting is meh as are the performances from everyone else. A very large portion of this film is spent sticking far too well to a much-worn script. There’s not a lot here that features, oh how do I put this, ORIGINALITY. Everything here has been seen before and done better. King and Elordi have literally no chemistry and they’re a real-life couple. How? Also, I literally didn’t know that until I researched the cast and I’m sad I know this. It’s not as sad as how uninteresting and flat their performances are.
Our Grade: D-, Don’t see this film. It offers literally nothing. No entertainment, no laughs, and certainly a thought in one’s head. This is Netflix doing Netflix things. Some of 2018’s absolute worst can be uncovered on the streaming service. Peruse our reviews for the last two years and you’ll find a hot garbage fire of bad cinema from the folks at Netflix. Don’t see this. There’s a ton of great films on Netflix that they didn’t make, especially in the genre of teen comedy/romantic comedy.
