Title: Revenge
MPAA Rating: R
Director: Coralie Fargeat
Starring: Matilda Lutz, Kevin Janssens, Vincent Colombe
Runtime: 1 hr 48 mins

What It Is: During a weekend rendezvous with her married lover Richard (Janssens) gorgeous mistress Jen (Lutz) is sexually assaulted by Richards married friend Stan (Colombe). Now to conceal this horrendous action they’ve thrown Jan off a cliff. Battered, bruised and bleeding with a giant piece of stump through the kidney Jen is out for the one thing that might make amends for this terrible occurrence. But unarmed and possibly dying against three trained hunters with weapons she’ll have her work cut out for her.

What We Think: What a gripping and bloody good time! Matilda Lutz is certainly much more than some pretty face. She’s a tour de force. Janssens is a vile dude in this and he’s supposed to be. Narratively the script, also penned by Fargeat is simple but gloriously effective. Moments of silence are used for various effects. Whether it’s stealth, contemplation or something completely different silence plays its part. It does not skimp on the blood either. This film is violent, and it is violent with a purpose. It’s a rape/revenge film for the #metoo generation.

Our Grade: A-, Careful in its discussions and liberal in its violence. This is a film I can FOR SURE recommend. If you’ve not seen it, maybe go ahead and do that! It does exactly what it is supposed to do. Lutz is going to be a freakin’ star even if Fargeat ends up at the end as the true supernova for her work behind the lens. Whatever either of these talented women do next we’ll be there! Just let us know Coralie we got you. Revenge is currently available on Blu-ray and Digital so it should be easy for you to go through this journey with Jen.
