What It Is: 13-year-old Sadie (Mitri Schloss) is having a very hard time dealing with her father’s absence. You see he’s a soldier and he’s been gone for some time. This has also taken its toll on her mother Rae (Lynskey) who feels guilty for entertaining the thought of enjoying the company of any other man. Presently it’s her vice principal Bradley (Tony Hale) and that all changes once the mysterious Cyrus (Gallagher Jr.) moves in across the trailer park.

What We Think: This movie’s themes cast a wide net. Whether it’s dealing with the absence felt by a father gone, the anger this can cause or the loneliness. Drug addiction and trailer park life are also themes explored here. Griffiths is direct with her camera and her vision. In our interview with her (which you can listen to below) we discuss these issues and the inspirations behind the film. The cast she’s able to construct is utterly fantastic. Including (as we joked) Emmy winner Tony Hale. None of them is the star though. Sophia Mitri Schloss earns the lead role and she is pitch perfect in her performance and I cannot wait for what she does next. 

Our Grade: A-, This was a huge surprise for me going into the Las Vegas Film Festival. What I left with was a floored experience. One that had me excited to see what Griffiths does next. IF you can find this one I would recommend you chech this film out for sure. If it gets its grips into you like it did me you certainly won’t be disappointed.
