LaDainian Tomlinson’s Homecoming Celebration

Being a native of San Diego, as well as a fan of the Chargers (well until they left San Diego, but that’s a story for another time), when I was invited to a homecoming for LaDainian Tomlinson, I replied yes right away.

Not only was this a homecoming for the greatest Charger player of all time, it was a fundraiser for Disabled American Veterans and a promotion for a new movie which marks his acting debut.

Since the event was a fundraiser for Disabled American Veterans, there was an auction for signed LT memorabilia including helmets, jerseys, and more. The auction ended up raising over $3500 for DAV, which was terrific.

During the event at the Farmer & The Seahorse restaurant there was a meet and greet with LT, as well as speech from Pastor Miles McPherson from The Rock Church, Councilmember Scott Sherman (who proclaimed August 27th as LaDainian Tomlinson day in San Diego), and former National Commander of Disabled American Veterans, David Riley.

A trailer for the movie was also shown, after which it was announced that a portion of the proceeds would benefit Disabled American Veterans. Also announced was a promotion where people can buy a dinner and a movie for veterans. By going to blessavet.com/ one can pay $25 which will go to a ticket to the movie as well as a restaurant.com gift card for $25. Considering I live in one of the biggest military cities in the world, and am friends with a few current and former members of the military (some of whom have used DAV’s services) this is a great cause.

God Bless the Broken Road premieres this week, and in it LaDainian plays a pastor. The cast also includes Lindsay Pulsipher as a young mother who loses her husband during the war in Afghanistan, Jordin Sparks, Robin Givens, and more.

The official synopsis is as follows “God Bless the Broken Road tells the story of a young mother who loses her husband in Afghanistan and struggles to raise their young daughter in his absence. The film combines elements of faith, country music, and stock car racing while paying tribute to those who serve in the United States Military.”
