Title: 29 to Life
MPAA Rating: Not Rated
Director: Alex Magaña
Starring: Murphy Patrick Martin, Diana Solis, Hayley Ambriz
Runtime: 1 hr 40 mins

What It Is: Barnaby (Martin) is a 29-year-old slacker who, after getting dumped by his girlfriend Elaina (Ambriz) has no place to live. Without a job, without money and now living in his car parked at the beach things aren’t exactly looking up. When he goes to his high school reunion committee meeting because they might have food, he runs into a friend from high school in Madison (Solis). She might just be the jump start he needs to truly figure out this adulting thing. Over ten years too late.

What We Think: It has its strong suits but unfortunately, Murphy Patrick Martin isn’t one of them. He’s our lead but his character is wholly unlikeable. For me, this whole thing is saved by just how sweet the character of Madison is and the decent job Diana Christina does here. The biggest negative for me was the music. There’s one rights free track used over and over again to the point of nausea. That should’ve been cleaned up for sure. I think that director Alex Magaña worked with what he had. His hard work is there but getting a bit more from his actors on the next one is something he’ll have to look into.

Our Grade: C+, A quick positive note I think the arc, though the standard was explored nicely. There’s potential here for several elements to be better utilized in future projects and I’ll have my eye on those. I would point people who enjoy romantic comedies to this film. Outside of that, this is not a film of dire importance. Those of you with Amazon Prime can check out the film HERE so click that link, yeah?
