Title: When We First Met
MPAA Rating: TV-14
Director: Ari Sandel
Starring: Adam DevineAlexandra DaddarioShelley Hennig
Runtime: 1 hr 37 mins

What It Is: One Halloween night Noah (Devine) meets Avery (Daddario) at a party. the night goes well but he still ends up in the friend zone at the end of the night. Now some ten years later we’re at Avery’s pre-wedding dinner with the man she met the day after Halloween, Ethan (Robbie Amell). When Ethan accidentally discovers a magical photo booth, the exact same one from the night he and Avery met he’s offered the chance to try again and again…and again to make Avery fall in love with him.

What We Think: We all know I’m a huge fan of “RomComs” and this does the genre justice. I really loved the ending of the film and thought this was Adam Devine’s best work yet. He’s funny and at times really charming. Alexandra Daddario is far less irritating than she normally is in her films. I could’ve done without Andrew Bachelor aka King Bach in this. The guy is certainly no actor. Structurally Sandel delivers a film similar to his previous effort The DUFF which is a very underrated film.

Our Grade: B, FINALLY! Finally, Netflix has put out a film that’s not complete crap. It has been since I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore which is over a year ago. Since that one, it’s been slog after slog to get through these films. I’m glad to report it took a romantic comedy to get them back on track. I recommend this one. Especially to those people who appreciate a well told and funny romance. It doesn’t get the time travel thing quite right but does enough to milk the comedy in it. Overall a really fun film that gets just enough laughs to leave you happy with it.
