Title: Step Sisters

What It Is: Jamilah (Echikunwoke) is living the good life! She’s in line for her dream school of Harvard, she’s captain of her sororities step team and she and her boyfriend Dane (Matt McGorry) have been together for quite some time. When she doesn’t receive the endorsement from her alumni parents for that Harvard application. Instead, she has to rely on a possible recommendation from her boss, who’s also a Harvard alum. To get that recommendation she has to help change the fortune of a different sorority, who have a less than stellar reputation. 

What We Think: So insofar as dance films go this one is meh. It’s not a great film Echikunwoke is a likable lead but she’s failed by a subpar script. One that’s lazily written, relying more on racial stereotypes as character motivations then it does anything else. There’s almost no good music in this. That’s a licensing issue. One that for sure seems to have plagued the production. Netflix continues its subpar run on films. Seriously things like You Get Me and The Discovery don’t warrant your time even IF they come with the price of admission.

Our Grade: C-, So do I recommend it? Nah not really go ahead and take this one out of the queue. That’s a funny word isn’t? Queue? Remove all the vowels and its the same word! Oh, sorry, looks like I lost track there. This is probably because the movie isn’t great. Anyway, you really don’t need to go out of your way to see this one. You know I won’t tell you what to do but trust me and take the recommendation. Perhaps Eden Sher should stick to voicing her amazing animated avatar Star.
