Title: Dog Years
MPAA Rating: Not Rated
Director: Adam Rifkin
Starring: Burt Reynolds, Ariel Winter, Clark Duke
Runtime: 1 hr 34 mins

What It Is: Vic Edwards (Reynolds) was without a doubt the biggest movie star of the 70’s and some of the 80’s. Now he’s in his 80’s and things are a little bit different. When he’s invited to a small film festival that ends up being simply a bunch of fans of his movies. While in Nashville, a city he grew up in and went to college he slowly has to begin to realize that perhaps his best days are behind him. With the help of his young chauffer Lil (Winter) he’ll relive some of his best days.

What We Think: A great film told lovingly by the director about a figure he adores this was as director Rifkin told during the San Diego film festival in which I saw it “a film I wrote specifically for Burt Reynolds” but one that he initially didn’t care for. Once he did take the role the film was crafted and there’s a really touching story here. Reynolds is at the best he’s been in some time and Winter is good enough, though audiences complained of her somewhat annoying demeanor. I kind of agree with this.

Our Grade: B+, A great film and one that many may struggle to find. It MIGHT be on VOD near you? It also could totally not. Regardless I’d recommend you seek it out and check it out. It’s a generational tale told rather well. Plus Lil’s artwork is all created by Sandman creator and husband of singer/songwriter Amanda Palmer, Neil Gaiman. It’s awesome to see Burt Reynolds back in action again and the similarities between he and Vic are amazingly accurate. Nonetheless, I’d recommend you see it for sure!
