Title: Tramps

What It Is: Danny (Turner) lives at home with his mother in New York City. When his brother Darren (Michael Vondel) gets arrested and must spend the night in jail he sends Danny out to perform pick and drop for a client. When the whole thing goes wrong both Danny and the driver of their car Ellie (Van Patten) must now fix the issue they’ve caused. All the while the two young people begin to grow closer to one and other.

What We Think: This felt familiar and yet unique. There’s a sense of a film that is one thing but does another. You think from the jump you’re getting a typical crime drama. What you get instead is a coming of age film about growing up, loving, and figuring out who you are as a person. The performances here are good specifically Grace Van Patten who’s arc is interesting enough. Most of the movie centers on just these two so it feels very personal as you witness it all. I even really liked the ending despite its somewhat predictable nature.

Our Grade: B, Another enjoyable flick by Netflix. They’ve really been producing some good stuff lately. From their TV shows lie GLOW and Ozark to their movies like this and The Discovery which was well produced despite its inherent narrative flaws. I recommend this film and suggest that if you have access to Netflix you watch this as it is all rather enjoyable. Check it out for sure! Just know that the movie you think it is, it really isn’t.
