Title: iBoy

What It Is: Tom (Milner) is a young man caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. When he is shot while running away from criminals raping a young woman he’s shot right in the head where his phone was. Parts of the phone is stuck in his brain and this allows Tom to manipulate any and all of the electronics he wants. He can send a text without taking his phone out, change the number in someone’s bank account, really anything he wants to do. All he really wants is vengeance on whoever it was that raped his crush Lucy (Williams) and he is going to make their lives hell.

What We Think: It’s pretty by the numbers. Like stuff happens and you just kind of expected it to. There’s nothing wrong with linear storytelling, but there is when you know what’s at the end of the line and how we’re going to get there. Milner gives a decent performance but Maisie Williams is all but wasted.There are certainly things to enjoy here like some of the effects for what iBoy can do, but it is narratively flawed. Most of this stems from the unrealistic plot devices and character motives. That leaves this out in the cold.

Our Grade: C+, Meh the film is just meh. The best part of all of this is that it won’t cost you much to check the film out should you choose to do so since it is on Netflix. That, I think makes me a little more willing to recommend it, even if it is only a slight recommendation. I mean sure you can check it out if the trailer interests you at all. If it does go to Netflix and check it out.
