What It Is: The date was Thursday, January 15th, 2009 it was a cold morning in New York City. As American Airlines flight 1549 took off from LaGuardia it had no idea it would hit a flock of Canadian Geese and lose both engines at the lowest altitude ever. If not for captain Chelsey “Sully” Sullenberger (Hanks) and his bold decision-making all 155 people on board may have died. Now he is being investigated (as all crashes are) by the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board). With the board of the NTSB judging whether his decision was, in fact, the best one.

What We Think: Tom Hanks continues to show he’s one of the most talented actors to walk the planet. Aaron Eckhart shows why he’s probably one of the most underrated. Eastwood does an okay job here but thankfully it’s good Eastwood which is better than bad Eastwood (see American Sniper). What he does best is give a feeling of watching something tangible occurring. He nails that here and Hanks helps the whole way through. I like the coldness of the cinematography. A wash of grey-blues and whites. Giving the film a dazed look. Much like something a victim of trauma might have to deal with.

Our Grade: B-, A strong film that is good without stepping into the great turf. I certainly recommend that everyone check this film out it is a strong one. I’m going to recommend you check this out for sure. It is a movie that is good and also very accessible. Literally, anyone can pick this up and find something to enjoy. I think it is a fitting tribute to an absolute miracle of a moment. With that, I’ll leave you with a great piece of cinematic music inspired by these events.
