Title: Bone Tomahawk
MPAA Rating: Unrated
Director: S. Craig Zahler
Starring: Kurt Russell, Patrick Wilson, Matthew Fox
Runtime: 2 hrs 12 mins

What It Is: When a drifter named Purvis (played by David Arquette) gets caught in the town of Bright Hope he is questioned about why he’s there. When town Sherrif Franklin Hunt (Russell) asks him he states his partner Buddy (Sid Haig) was killed by a group of mysterious natives. Upon doing some research, it is discovered that these natives are not only dangerous but cannibalistic. The following day after Purvis’ arrival the town doctor who sewed him up Mrs. O’Dwyer (Lili Simmons) along with the town deputy and Purvis have been abducted by the natives who they’re calling Troglodytes. Now it’s up to Sherriff Hunt, a handsome stranger named John Brooder (Fox), who may or may not be a “confirmed bachelor”, the towns backup deputy Chicory (Richard Jenkins) and lastly Mr. O’Dwyer (Wilson), who is totally crippled.

What We Think: Holy crap I loved this movie. If, and that is a big IF, you make a western and it is good I am going to love it! Zahler crafts an unbelievable one here. First up you have Kurt Russell, and that is normally enough, but then they gave him an awesome stache and a badge. I won’t point out specific performances since all of them were awesome. However, I will point out Lili Simmons who I have not seen in much surprised me very much. This film has some horror elements to it (and no I do not mean Sid Haig!) and they totally work.

Our Grade: A, Not only is this a movie I am going to recommend, but dammit I wanna make sure you all catch this film. Pending the next month Bone Tomahawk might end up on my top 15 of the year. As I said above I love westerns, and when they’re good like this and Slow West are then I’m on board 100%. Never has a movie like this evoked such feelings in it’s third act as this one does. Never have I seen so much blood in a western as I did here. GO SEE THIS DAMN MOVIE! I am serious. I would also like to point out that Kurt Russell is still awesome!

    1. For someone who can’t figure out why it went directly to VOD you certainly nailed the reasons why. This is a surprisingly fantastic piece of cinema and that’s saying the least of it.
