Title: Trainwreck
MPAA Rating: R
Director: Judd Apatow
Starring: Amy Schumer, Bill Hader, Brie Larson
Runtime: 2 hrs 4 mins

What It Is: Amy (Schumer) is disgusted by the entire idea of monogamy, thanks in no small part to her fathers teaching that true love does not really exist. This mentality has followed her in to adulthood. She sleeps with whoever she wants not caring about their feelings. Her current boyfriend Stephen (John Cena) even leaves her after he professes his love with no audible response from Amy. With that now over Amy moves back into her work. It is there she has to interview Dr. Aaron Connors (Hader) a man who might just be what Amy has been looking for the whole time.

What We Think: Man this movie is funny! I did not expect this to be that funny especially with Schumer in the lead. I had never found her funny. However, she kills it here, and she’s not alone, most of the cast here are phenomenal in their funny. Hader proves he can totally be the handsome (in his own way) leading man. Even a couple of the cameos hit it big (I’m looking at you Cena, and Lebron James!) and prove to be a joy to the film. Brie Larson and Mike Birbiglia make an interesting and weird couple as Amy’s in-laws, but permit me for a moment to talk about the character that stole the film. Colin Quinn as Amy’s dad is just an awesome (and ridiculous) character.

Our Grade: B, Color me surprised with this film, but don’t think we’re out of the woods yet. Apatow still has no clue what pacing is, a couple of scenes seem completely random and don’t quite “fit” with the rest of the narrative. Overall an enjoyable comedy and one that may be competing with Spy at years end for funniest of the year.
