Title: Ant-Man
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Peyton Reed
Starring: Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lily
Runtime: 1 hr 55 mins

What It Is: Marvel studios is back with perhaps it’s weirdest character yet. Dr. Hank Pym has invented the Pym Particle. This particle when applied to objects can reduce or increase the gaps in gravity between atoms. Making objects either smaller or larger. Dr. Pym is too old now and has for too long been wearing the suit of the Ant-Man. Now with his own company trying to replicate his particle, and very close to it he must find someone else to dawn the mantle he created for himself.

What We Think: Ant-Man is simultaneously hilarious and heartfelt. It’s perfect balance of wit and charm will mesmerize any person in the freaking theater. Paul Rudd is perfect as Scott Lang, his every man demeanor and likability are a necessary tool to liking his thief character. I’d like to take a moment to say how much awesome came out of Michael Pena’s mouth. He is hilarious in his straddling of the stereotypes that plague Hispanic characters. Given Marvel’s recent strides in diversity, if you’d like to call them that this is the sort of character that isn’t helpful. Having said that the character is very funny.

Our Grade: A, Man this movie is way better, and more memorable than Avengers: Age of Ultron. Where that was a clustered mess this was slick, polished, Marvel truly at its best. Director Peyton Reed keeps it sharp as a tack. His comedy roots truly shines here, and I hope this isn’t the last we’ve seen of Reed or Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The films two post-credit scenes indicate some interesting things in store as well. Situations I won’t spoil here.
