Title: The Drop
MPAA Rating: R
Director: Michael R. Roskam
Starring: Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, James Gandolfini
Runtime: 1 hr 46 mins

What Is It: Bob Saginowski (Hardy) is a bartender at Uncle Marv’s Bar, an establishment known to be a “drop” spot for organized crime in Brooklyn. When two men rob the place Bob and Marv (Gandolfini) must find the money that was taken by any means necessary, while also dealing with a man who thinks Bob stole his dog and his girl. But was this perhaps an inside job? Is Bob to blame? Will they find the money? Based on a screenplay written by acclaimed screenwriter Dennis Lehane, and directed by Michael R. Roskam (Bullhead) The Drop is a story of one mans journey for normalcy.

What We Think: Tom Hardy destroys anything and everything given to him! Not only does he make Bob into a character we like based solely on the guys strength of acting but he elevates this crime drama to something outerwordly in it’s execution. Director Roskam has only one other film on his resume the spectacular indie Bullhead. I really look forward to whatever he’s got going on next. James Gandolfini is great as Marv and you’re never quite sure of his intentions nor what he’s meaning to do as the film moves along.

Our Grade: A-, This was an underseen film that will hopefully get justice done to it on Blu-Ray and DVD. This film deserves better than it got. Tom Hardy can’t do anything wrong at this point. Let me also mention Noomi Rapace who doesn’t get near the credit she deserve by American audiences. Hopefully that’ll soon change and she’ll get some better roles.
