Title: The Amazing Spiderman 2
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Marc Webb
Starring: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx
Runtime: 2 hrs 20 mins

What It Is: Our web-slinging hero Spiderman (Garfield) is dealing with the aftermath of his first adventure. Being both the masked hero, and regular sardonic guy Peter Parker. Spidey will battle not only the maniacal Electro (Foxx), a villain who used to be a friend in the Green Goblin  (Dane DeHaan), and his own demons revolving around his birth parents in particular his mysterious father Robert Parker. Meanwhile in his life as Peter he’s trying to keep a grasps on his relationship with Gwen Stacy (Stone) as that seems to be slipping through the cracks. As Harry takes control of Oscorp following his father’s death the shady practices of his company are rearing their ugly head.

What We Think: Andrew Garfield for our money is Spiderman. He personifies all the attributes that make both Peter Parker, and Spiderman, from his likability as the quick witted one-liner spitting Spidey to his vulnerable broken Peter Parker. Garfield has the range and the acting chops to handle the complexities of the role. Emma Stone holds you as Gwen and you never dislike her, a very difficult thing sometimes in these superhero tales. Webb’s handling of the Gwen character can’t be understated it was polar opposite of Raimi and one huge miss within his trilogy.

Our Grade: B+, It’s not as good as Raimi’sequel and it’s definitely ten minutes too long. That extra ten minutes could’ve been cut, and likewise used to intro TASM3. Many worried it would be an overstuffed mess, and that inflated runtime was thought to be credence of that however, the 2 and a half hour run doesnt seem so long. Webb even went so far as to make one particularly grueling scene comic book perfect. With it’s heart in the right place and plenty of breathtaking swing by’s this one is fun for the whole family.
