Box Office: Spiderman Shows It’s Eight Legs Are Rather Short Thanks to Some New Neighbors

Box office results are in and there’s a pleasant surprise at the top of the heap as the debuting comedy from Forgetting Sarah Marshall director Nicholas Stoller entitled Neighbors. The comedy revolving around a couple and their new born baby trying to navigate around the fraternity house that moved in next door. It is actor Seth Rogan’s biggest live action opening weekend usurping 2011’s The Green Hornet. I think a lot of that has to do with the quality of the film here as you can see in our review
However, that means that this weeks number two is the struggling sequel The Amazing Spiderman 2  and while 550.7 million dollars is nothing to sneeze at when you consider it cost over 100 million more dollars to produce and it’s budget worth of marketing attached that could be thought of as a lose. In third place is the romantic comedy The Other Woman which keeps chugging along en route to it’s current total of 62 million thus far. It continues to remain in the top three, someplace I didn’t think I’d be. Heaven is for Real takes the fourth place spot this week ballooning the small 12 million dollar budget towards a 75.7 million dollar pay out. Shoring up this weeks top five is Captain America: Winter Soldier which after six weeks is still in the top five.
Other wide release films debuting this week are the G Rated romp Mom’s Night Out which finished seventh and made almost all of it’s 5 million dollar budget back. Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return made 3.7 million. The three limited release films Chef ($204,961), and documentary Fed Up (126,028).
What do you guys think about next weeks box office? Will Neighbors hold up, or will our monstrous buddy Godzilla take the top spot from both Rogen and his neighbors? Will Spiderman step up his box office game and get back on top? Let us know in the comments section below!
